Dr. Selva is keenly interested in the viability of a private practice
pediatrics model in an academic setting. Such a model sets the
standard for service in an academic center that must also balance the
needs of research and education against the need for “top flight”
patient service. Using business models from the private sector, Dr.
Selva is developing a system that will allow practicing academic
physicians to maintain better control over their day-to-day service
initiatives, improving care for all the citizens of mid-Missouri.
As well, Dr. Selva has maintained a consistent effort at educating
physicians in training as well as those in practice through ongoing
Continuing Medical Education programs. Dr. Selva has chaired the
annual Common Childhood Problems Conference, now celebrating its 25th
Anniversary, for 7 years. He has also served as the Director of
Continuing Medical Education for Pediatric Annals, SLACK, Inc. publishers,
for the past 7 years. Dr. Selva currently serves as a member of the
Glaxo Smith-Kline speaker bureau.
Dr. Selva maintains ongoing efforts in the development of a computerized
medical record system for MU Health Care as well as the development of
applications to assist in patient care on a day-to-day basis.
Over the past few years Dr. Selva has also participated in industry
sponsored clinical trials in children.
